Once a powerful major general in his country’s former KGB, Rakhat Aliyevdoesn’t seem to be doing very well in the benign captivity of an Austrian prison.
Austrian media report that Josefstadt prison officials have put Aliyev on suicide watch.
Fellow inmates are abusing him.
Correspondence between his lawyer and prison authorities indicates that Aliyev, the extortionist, is now being extorted behind bars.
Other prisoners are even stealing Rakhat Aliyev’s underwear.
Or at least his t-shirt and belt.
To protect him from further prisoner abuse, Josefstadt officials have transferred Aliyev into a more secure area. However, he must continue to share a cell with at least one other prisoner, for fear that, if left in solitary confinement, he will kill himself.
